NFL Teams: How and When to Bet

The National Football League (NFL) is the highest level of professional American football around the globe. The tournament consists of a 17-week regular season that takes place from early September to late December.

At the end of the regular season, seven teams from each conference (NFC and AFC) advance to the playoffs. This is a single-elimination tournament that finished with the Super Bowl, usually on the first Sunday in February.

Bet on Florida NFL Teams

A number of NFL teams are Florida based and so popular with NFL bettors in the state. Below we have given you some more in-depth history of these teams, their current performance, and some predictions for the current NFL season.

Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins compete in the NFL as a member club of the American Football League (AFL), East Division. They are the oldest professional sports team across Florida, having begun play in the AFL in 1966. The Dolphins joined the NFL during the 1970s AFL-NFL merger.

The Dolphins made their first appearance at Super Bowl VI but were unsuccessful. The following year the Dolphins were responsible for the NFL’s only perfect season. They also won the Super Bowl the following year, making them the first AFL team two have won back-to-back championships.

Predictions show high interest in the Dolphins for the 2020 season. Despite their bad setup, they won five of their last nine games last season. They finished with plenty of salary cap space, as well as three first-round picks for drafts.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars compete as a member of the South Division of the American Football Conference (AFC), having joined the NFL in the 1995 expansion. Since then, the Jaguars won the division championships in 1998, 1999, and 2017. They have also qualified for the playoffs seven times.

2020 will be the Jaguars fourth season under head coach Doug Marrone. There should be many changes taking place this off-season for the team. However, predictions show concern over whether there’s enough time for the team to be on form for 2020.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers compete in the National Football Conference (NFC) South division. The club joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1976.

During the 1979 season, the buccaneers were the first expansion team to win a division championship. They also won a playoff game, and both hosted and played the conference championship game in this same season. They qualified for the playoffs for ten consecutive years and won the Super Bowl XXXVII in 2002.

Unfortunately, the Buccaneers have the worst win-loss percentage across all four major American sports leagues. In the 2019 season, they did manage to improve on their 2018 record. However, they again missed the playoffs for the twelfth year running.

The Buccaneers did particularly well on the 2019 drafts and will need to do so again to be in a good position for the 2020 season. However, there is the potential for them to get themselves into better shape during this off-season.

NFL 2020/2021 Regular Schedule

The 2020 NFL will be the 101st season of the tournament. The season is currently set to begin on September 10, 2020. The kickoff game should be held by the Kansas City Chiefs, the current defending champions. The season is set to conclude with the Super Bowl LV on February 7, 2021, at Raymond James Stadium, home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Highlights of the 2020 season are set to include the following:

NFL Kickoff Game – The Kickoff game will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2020. It is expected to be hosted by Super Bowl LIV champions, Kansas City Chiefs.

NFL International Series: Five games to be played outside the US.

NFL London Games – Two games will be played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and two at Wembley Stadium. The Jacksonville Jaguars will host both of the games at Wembley. The Miami Dolphins will host one of the Tottenham games.

NFL Mexico Games – Estadio Azteca in Mexico City will host one game in the 2020 season.

Thanksgiving Day – As per tradition, three games will be held on Thursday, November 26, 2020. This will include the usual afternoon doubleheader, hosted by the Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys before the Thanksgiving night game.

Bet on the NFL Playoffs: Where the best teams meet

The NFL Playoffs involve fourteen teams and consist of a single-elimination tournament ending with the Super Bowl. Between 1933 and 1966, the Playoffs would only consist of a single NFL Championship Game. After 1967, the playoffs expanded, allowing four teams to qualify for the tournament.

When the league merged with the AFL, the playoffs expanded again, to involve eight teams. They were then expanded to ten and then twelve teams in 1978 and 1990, respectively. In 2020, the playoffs are expected to expand again, allowing fourteen teams to qualify.

Wild Card Teams

Wild Card teams for the NFL are selected by each of the conferences to send to the players. As of 2020, each conference will send three wild card teams along with the three division champions. The first round of the playoffs is the ‘Wild Card Round.’ Here, the division champions are awarded a home-field advantage for these games.

Each NFL team is scheduled one ‘bye week’, usually between weeks four and twelve of the regular season. On occasions when there has been an odd number of teams in the league, then teams may be granted two bye weeks for the season. This happened in 1966 and 1967 after the addition of the Miami Dolphins.

Super Bowl Matchup

The Super Bowl of 2020 saw a matchup of two of the most prominent NFL teams. The San Francisco 49ers met the Kansas City Chiefs for the first time in the history of the big game. The final score was 20-31, with the Chiefs being crowned the Super Bowl Champions.

The predictions for Super Bowl LV still have these two historical teams as favorites. Early odds favor the Chiefs and 49ers, and very close behind, the Baltimore Ravens. So potentially, we could see a repeat of the Super Bowl matchup from 2020.
